The Senate has passed an alteration to the law setting up the National Open University, making alumni of the establishment qualified for preparation by the National Youth Service Corps and to go to the Nigerian Law School.

According to the REPORT, the passage followed the adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund on the ‘Bill for An Act to Amend the National Open University Act Cap N6 LFN 1983 (Amendment) Bill 2017’ by the lawmakers at the plenary on Thursday.

In the report, the Senate board expressed that the revision to the National Open University of Nigeria Act was to carry the organization at standard with the consistent colleges in the nation.

The report stated, "The targets of the bill are as per the following: right off the bat, to correct the current enactment with a view to expelling the impression of people in general about the college in regard of "correspondence," which gives the feeling that the college is not a full-time college and, accordingly, seen as low maintenance.
